You can now buy most of my ebooks direct from this site. I thought I ought to explain how it works, and why you might prefer to do it that way. There should be some benefits for you that I just couldn’t deliver via the usual ebook retailers.
How it works
All my ebooks are in epub format. They work on Kobo, Kindle, Nook, and pretty much all the other ebook readers, but it’s not quite the same as buying from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.
So what happens when you buy direct from me?
- When you see a little blue button like this:
you can pay via credit card or Paypal
- You’ll then automatically get a link to the epub download.
- Send it or load it onto your device.
- Done.
No delay, you get your ebook within minutes.
It’s all very straightforward but if you haven’t done it before there are instructions for Kobo here, Kindle here, and Nook here. There are probably videos on YouTube as well. Other devices should be similar but if you’re struggling drop me a line and I’ll find out how it’s done.
The procesing and download system is run by a company called Payhip who have been around for decades. It’s extremely reliable but this is the internet, right, so things go sideways from time to time. Never fear! To make sure you get your book asap, you’ll also get an email receipt with that download link o it. Quick and simple, right?
Why would you want to do it?
Well first, to support the author. If you buy direct, you pay the same as before but more of the money goes to them. Let’s give you an example.
- If you buy an ebook from Amazon priced at $0.99, they take 65%.
- If the ebook is $2.99 to $9.99 they only take 30%, but that’s still a healthy chunk.
Now I know everyone has their expenses, but it’s a digital file. They don’t have to invest in stock, all they do is add a web page with a buy button. Yea, I know there’s a little more involved than that, but please… For an independent author the setup it up is kinda complicated (most of us aren’t great with websites and stuff), but the costs run out at around 11%.
Put it another way.
- If you buy a $0.99 ebook from Amazon, the author gets $0.35. If you buy it direct, the author gets $0.88.
- If you buy a $2.99 ebook from Amazon, the author gets $2.09. If you buy it direct, the author gets $2.66.
So basically the author is getting paid more for the work they did. Gotta be good, right?
There are a couple of other things
Amazon prevents me from selling any ebook under 99 cents. So although bite-size reads you can easily get through in a day are increasingly popular, I couldn’t price them a bit lower. I’m going to write some of those stories over the coming months, and you’ll be able to get them here for less. I can also run giveaways and promos without the restrictions that Amazon and others impose.
Bottom line, you get more stories for less money. Yaay!!!
OK, I think that just about covers what I wanted to say today. If you have any questions by all means drop me a line here. If you’d like to keep up to date with news, discounts, etc., you can also sign up for my free monthly newsletter at the bottom of that page.
